An incorrect name or date on a bus ticket: what to do

If you notice a wrong letter in a name, another date or an incorrect departure point, first identify exactly what was booked incorrectly. Correcting a typo and changing the journey can be different operations with different conditions. Do not edit the ticket file yourself or immediately buy another: contact support about the existing order and establish the available options.

Check the entire confirmation

Open the ticket and booking message. Check the passenger’s name, route, exact boarding point, departure date and time, arrival date and departure details. An overnight journey may finish on the next calendar day, so a different arrival date is not necessarily an error. On an international route, check which time is shown for each section: the time zone guide helps distinguish a date change from an incorrect booking.

Compare the name with the document you intend to present. A difference may result from the alphabet or transliteration used, but that does not mean you should independently declare the ticket valid. Ask whether that specific spelling is acceptable or needs correction. Even a small typo should be assessed under the operator’s rules rather than another traveller’s experience.

Use the order’s support channel

Find the support contact in the confirmation or official account. Prepare the order number, departure date and a brief description of the error. State both the current and correct values: for example, a ticket for the 18th when you need to travel on the 19th. For a name error, clarify whether the same passenger is travelling. Replacing a person may be handled differently from correcting one letter.

Do not send a complete identity document in a public comment or post. If verification requires details or an image, use a confirmed channel and provide only what is requested. A bank password, payment authorisation code or access to personal email is not needed for a routine ticket enquiry. Keep the enquiry reference and correspondence.

Clarify the type of change

Ask whether the existing ticket can be corrected or reissued, or whether a refund and new purchase are necessary. Establish the deadline, possible fee and effect on the price. A date change may depend on available seats on another departure. Do not treat an initial message saying support will try to change it as a completed operation.

Ask about the final document: will you receive an updated ticket, separate confirmation or a different order number? If support permits travel with the original spelling, retain the specific reply and establish how to show it at boarding. A verbal assurance without an order reference is harder to demonstrate.

A wrong date or city

Another date, stop or direction usually changes the journey itself. First check the intended option and the full cost of the change. Two cities with similar names or different bus stations within one city are not interchangeable. Confirm the exact future boarding address after correction.

If cancellation is proposed, read the conditions before agreeing: the amount returned, any deductions and how the refund is arranged. Cancelling the old order does not guarantee a seat on a new departure. The refund and exchange guide helps you prepare questions and compare options.

After a correction

Check the updated name, date, route and time again. Save the new version offline and separate the old one so you do not accidentally present it at boarding. If the order number or ticket changed, ensure every traveller in a group booking has the right document. Keep earlier correspondence until the trip and financial matters are complete.

If a completion message arrives without a new ticket, contact support again. Do not infer success solely from an additional payment being taken. The electronic ticket guide explains how to prepare confirmation for the journey.

If departure is soon

Use the urgent contact stated in your order and provide the departure time immediately. Explore permitted alternatives in parallel, but do not cancel a valid order without understanding the consequences. At boarding, show the crew your ticket and support reply. Do not assume a driver can change fares, passengers or dates: that authority depends on company procedures.

The best way to reduce risk is to check confirmation immediately after purchase while there is time to enquire. A minute spent checking the name, calendar date and boarding location is often enough to notice a problem well before travel.

Frequently asked questions

Is one incorrect letter in a name acceptable?

There is no universal rule. Tell support the exact difference and get an answer about your ticket before travelling.

Can I edit the ticket PDF myself?

No. Editing the file does not change the order and may cause mismatches at checks. Use the official procedure.

Are name corrections always free?

No. Availability, fees and deadlines depend on the operator’s conditions and the type of change.

Can I give the ticket to another person?

That is different from correcting a typo. Ask separately whether passenger replacement is permitted.

Does a wrong date require a new purchase?

Not necessarily: a change or reissue may be available. Compare the options and costs first.

How do I know a correction is complete?

Obtain the confirmation required by the procedure and check the correct details. Correspondence about an intended change or an additional payment alone does not prove completion.
